Powerup Mechanics for the future

Performance based Powerups (Could be called "Boons")

Power ups that are rewarded on certain levels if the player types a bunch of words without making mistakes (word streaks). These cannot be bought by players before the level.

Powerup 1 : Wavelengths

Similar mechanic to "Radiations" but these give the player a buff.

If a player types 20 words in a row consecutively there is a 50% chance of beam of light (like a halo) spawning on the player with a letter spawning on top of the player. This letter should spawn for a very small time (0.7 seconds?) so only skilled players can take advantage of it.

Depending on the planet one of the following effects takes place -

  1. "Wavelength : X-Ray" - If player manages to activate it they can destroy obstacles by just typing the first and last letters of the obstacle.
  2. "Wavelength : Gamma" - Shields the player from the next attack.
  3. "Wavelength : Luma" - Transforms the players into a "white hole." Unlike a black hole that is known to suck things in, the player pushes all incoming obstacles back.

Powerup 2 : Shooting Stars

These powerups always fly overhead above the player. The player must shoot it when it is right above their spaceship so it drops the item that gives the players a buff on the spaceship.

If the player had a perfect match in the last game a shooting star may randomly spawn in the next match.

  1. "Shooting Star : Lifeforce" - Gives the player a life back.
  2. "Shooting star : Ferrum" - Players temporarily shoot bullets with extra penetration causing all obstacles in its line of path to be destroyed.

Mockup of shooting stars -

The above mockup shows how a shooting star may spawn. It would never pose a threat to the player as it would never fly towards the player directly only overhead.

The above mockup shows the ideal position for the shooting star to be shot in order for the player to gain the boost from it.

The above mockup shows the star exploding after being shot and the gift/boon dropping onto the player and granting them whichever effect.
